The Japan Air Self-Defense Force operates two 747s used by the government of Japan for overseas travel by the Emperor, crown Prince, Prime Minister and other high-ranking officials. They are operated by the Special Airlift Group based at Chitose adjacent to New Chitose Airport near Sapporo. Both Jumbos are to be replaced in April 2019 by two Boeing 777-300ERs.
